77 hours 14 minutes (2010)

The original idea behind this piece was a two-fold challenge to the concept of sculpture as an untouchable object and of the nature of textile work and soft toys as pastoral in subject matter. I made a set of four machine embroidered soft sculptures of council high rise flats, at a scale designed to encourage play. As the piece developed the focus of the work shifted from the objects themselves and became more about their function as play things and I developed the photo shoot into an ikea-style catalogue to make a further comment on the ‘life-style’ products these companies sell.
